Shanghai electric power generation equipment Co., Ltd. (sepg) turbine works, the first turbine manufacturer in China, was founded in 1953. It covers an area of one square kilometer. There are about 1, 300 main equipments and 3, 200 employees, where 20% are engineers and technicians, 39.3% are senior skilled workers. Its main business is to design and manufacture of fossil-fired steam turbine, nuclear turbine and heavy duty gas turbine. It also produces turbine for marine use, blower and other power machineries. Sepg turbine works shares more than 35% of domestic market and also exports products to many countries like southeast Asian. In 2006, the production output was 36, 000 megawatt, which ranks first in the world. Based on the digestion and absorption of the imported world advanced technology and management method, it has gathered strong points from all and extracted essence. The introduced type 300mw turbine has reached the world advanced level and awarded the only state quality product gold prize from China machinery industry. The 600mw turbine has excellent performance record and the first 1000mw ultra-supercritical turbine unit has been put into successful operation in China, reaching world advanced level. Its main products keep the titles of "Shanghai famous brand products" for 12 times in succession.

During over 50 years, Shanghai turbine makers created many "no. 1" in China turbine manufacturing history, such as: The first 6mw turbine, the first introduced 300mw turbine, the first 310mw nuclear turbine and the first 1000mw ultra-supercritical turbine produced in China.

Shanghai turbine is the first enterprise in China machinery industry to be certified to ISO9001 quality certificate, as well as to be certified to ISO14001 environmental management system and ohsms certificates. It was also awarded honorable titles "state model enterprise of harmonious labor relationship", "state advanced enterprise of practicing excellent performance", "China machinery top 500" etc.

Invigorated by personal inspection of general secretary hu jintao on 28 July 2004, Shanghai turbine makers have been striving to make new contribution for the development of China power generation equipment manufacturing industry.
