Hengdian Group Shanghai Russia & Gold Basalt Fiber Co. Ltd. (GBF) is a high-tech company specializing in R&D, manufacturing and sales of continuous basalt fiber and its composites, which is responsible for the industrialization of the China High-Tech Research & Development Project (863 project).

GBF was founded and registered in Nanhui Industrial Park in Shanghai on Dec. 19, 2003 with registered capital of 20 million RMB. Its original shareholders include Hengdian Group Shanghai Investment Co. Ltd., Shenzhen Russia & Gold Carbon Materials Technology Co. Ltd., and Taiyuan Twin-Tower Aluminum Oxide, Inc. An basalt fiber industrial park of 74 thousand square meters is being constructed in Nanhui district of Shanghai with major functions of head office, demonstration base of downstream processing on basalt fiber and high-tech industrialization, R&D center, and center of marketing & sales.

GBF provides consumers with various types of continuous basalt fiber, super fine basalt fiber, basalt fiber products, basalt squama, and basalt fiber production equipments and technologies.

GBF focuses on the R&D of continuous basalt fiber, a kind of inorganic high-tech fiber advanced material, and takes on the task of industrialization of "continuous basalt fiber and its composites" project, which is listed as the China High-Tech R&D Industrialization Program of 2004.

Continuous basalt fiber is known as the advanced material of 21 st century. In 1980's, the previous Soviet Union succeeded in developing the 200- hole bushing technology, and from then on continuous basalt fiber has been turning from Government Issue to Civil Issue. Because of its series of outstanding chemical and mechanic characteristics, continuous basalt fiber possesses a promising application future, and has attracted more and more developed countries, like America, Japan and Germany, to innovate the technology. Continuous basalt fiber has been listed by Chinese government as one of the four major high-tech fibers of the mid and long development program in the coming 15 years.
