Baosteel Special Metals Co., Ltd., formerly known as Shanghai No. 5 Steel Plant, was founded in September 1958 and was awarded the honorary title of State-level Enterprise and National Quality Management Award. It is known as the leader of China's special steel industry. In November 1998, Shanggang No. 5 Plant was integrated into Baosteel Group and changed its name to Baosteel Group Shanghai Wugang Co., Ltd. In May 2005, the company's core assets were acquired by Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., and the group was established as a special steel branch of Baosteel Co., Ltd.

In June 2018, in accordance with the new round of strategic planning of "One Base and Five Yuans", China Baowu Group further promoted the development of "one place and two industries" of special steel land, and established Baowu Special Metallurgical Co., Ltd. (referred to as Baowu Special Metallurgy Co., Ltd. ) ), Baowu Special Metallurgy will strive to become "the leader of the key materials industry of special metallurgy in China and even the world". Baosteel Special Steel is responsible for the development and transformation of the park, and uses the Wusongkou Pioneer Park as a platform to build a science park (city) with new materials innovation and entrepreneurship as its core.
